I've had Vario for sometime now. Because i've never dealt with terriers of any kind before I did an insane amount of research on the various terrier breeds out there. Through my research of terriers I came across this site JRTCA while I was there I learned of all the different strains of Jack Russell terriers and even found some that were built IDENTICALLY to him and were pure bred. I still had my doubts on what else he was because he is brindled from nose to tail. Then on whim last night my girlfriend found this Atlas Terrier . An Atlas Terrier is basicly a Jack Russell terrier that is either mereled or brindled. This lead me to search for a breeder. I did find one with an actual site and started looking at the atlas terriers. They are identical to several strains of Jack Russell's (they came from them) and I learned that even in purebred Jack Russell lines that Atlas Terriers can appear. But due to "breed standards" for the JRT they were never accepted often culled or sent to shelters. So my thinking on him now is that my Vario is a pure bred (or really close to it) Atlas Terrier.
